What makes us special?

Montenegro may be small territorially, but it is large in some other things such as:

  • Montenegrins are the second highest nation in the world! We used to be in first place, but the Dutch have become taller and are now only 0.002 cm taller than us.
  • The highest railway bridge in Europe is Mala Rijeka. It was the tallest railway bridge in the world at the time it was built. The record was held for almost 20 years, until 2001, when the railway bridge over the Beipan River in Guizhou, China, was completed.
  • Montenegro has the deepest canyon in Europe – Tara. The river with the same name that flows through the canyon is called “Europe’s Last Tear”. The water is so clean and unpolluted that people usually drink it from the river. The canyon is 1300 meters deep, which makes the canyon of the river Tara the deepest canyon in Europe. It is the second deepest canyon in the entire world, and is the deepest canyon in Colorado in the United States.
  • Montenegro has the largest lake in the Balkans – Skadar Lake. It is located on the border of Montenegro and Albania. The river Bojana connects the lake with the Adriatic Sea. Skadar Lake is the largest bird reserve in Europe, with 279 bird species, including some of the last pelican colonies in Europe.
  • Montenegro has the longest sandy beach on the Adriatic coast – Velika plaža. This is a favorite destination in the Mediterranean among kitesurfers. They are regular guests on the beach during the summer season. The sky on the beach is filled with dragons from every part of the world.
  • Montenegro has the southernmost fjord in Europe. The Bay of Kotor is a winding bay of the Adriatic Sea in the southwestern part of Montenegro. The bay has been inhabited since antiquity. The well-preserved medieval towns of Kotor, Risan, Tivat, Perast, Prcanj and Herceg Novi, as well as their natural surroundings, are the main tourist attractions.
  • The largest vineyard in one piece in Europe and the amazing wine cellar Shipčanik, which is located in a cellar that was once a military base for airplanes. Today it is the perfect tourist attraction as well as a real haven for wine lovers!
  • … And many other interesting things make this country one of the most desirable tourist destinations not only in the region, but in the whole of Europe. Lonely Planet named Montenegro one of the world’s 10 best destinations for travelers around the world.
